The WARDOGS trailer plays “Reve ta stohne Dnipr shyrokyi” (“The Mighty Dnipro Roars and Groans”) — a song set to Shevchenko's words that Ukrainians recognise from the first bars. A British studio put it into the trailer for its shooter, and among Ukrainian outlets we were the first to notice.
Why this is no accident
The game has three factions — LONESTAR, MANTICORE and VALKYRA — and the conflict between them unfolds on maps that are hard not to recognise: post-Soviet towns, fields, industrial zones. The studio never spells out a direct parallel, and we will not put words in its mouth. But choosing this particular song for a game about private military companies on this kind of landscape is a decision, not a random pick from a music library.
What it means for us
In practical terms — nothing, apart from a pleasant feeling. There is no full Ukrainian voice-over in the game — the voice-over is English only, while the interface and subtitles are available in Ukrainian, and we write about that honestly: a song in the trailer is no substitute for a voice-over in your own language. But it is the kind of detail worth putting on record — and that is exactly why this site exists in Ukrainian at all.
