Methodology

The player count comes from the official Steam API (GetNumberOfCurrentPlayers) every 10 minutes, and we keep the full history: the playtest app before launch, the main game since 10 September.

Peaks and averages come from our own database, so they can differ slightly from SteamDB: we do not measure in the same second.

Frequently asked

How many players are online in WARDOGS?

The current number is the counter at the top of the page — our own sample through the public Steam API, refreshed every 10 minutes.

What is the WARDOGS player record?

428,372 players — 13 September 2026, in launch week, by our own sampling every 10 minutes. The August beta reached 105,774 per SteamDB. On Twitch the game had about 200,000 viewers in August and took first place on the platform.

Where does the WARDOGS player-count data come from?

From the official Steam API (GetNumberOfCurrentPlayers) every 10 minutes, with the full history kept since 24 August 2026. Before the release we track the playtest app; from 10 September, the main game.

Why do your numbers differ from SteamDB?

The source is the same — the public Steam API — but the samples are ours and the frequency differs. A gap of a hundred or two is normal: it depends on the second the sample was taken.

Why does the data update every 10 minutes and not live?

Because Steam serves the player count as snapshots, not a stream. Polling more often would not make the number more accurate, but it would raise the risk of being rate-limited.
